If you need inspiration for this week/month/year that will change (or validate) your approach to your cam business, this is it.
During an open-table discussion at a recent women’s group meeting I attended, one of the members shared her aspirations to start a business selling handmade, “weird-looking” headbands. What was stopping her, as she explained to the group, was that she really didn’t know “how” to sell them: she felt very uncomfortable with promotion to friends or people in her network, let alone strangers. It was pretty clear that she was still very much in the conceptual stage of development, so the other ladies prompted her with some foundational questions like, ‘who’s your target market’ and ‘how/where do you plan on selling these headbands?’ or ‘how do you plan on marketing this product?’
She didn’t have a cohesive plan in place, nor did she have a decisive answer to any of the questions being posed by the ladies of the group.
The hostess of the group then asked, “Have you ever heard of the Golden Circle concept?”
It’s not what you do, but why you do it.
Think about some of your personal favorite’s that you follow online- brands that influence you, people that you look up to, or accounts that you simply look forward to seeing updates from. Why do you follow them? What ways do you feel like you connect with them? Is it through the words that they say? Is it their personality? Now apply these same questions to your own business.
If you’re keen on Ted Talk’s, there’s a good chance that you’ve run across a segment called ‘Start with Why’ by speaker, professor, and author Simon Sinek. Regardless of whether you’ve already seen this or not, I’d like to encourage you to give it a watch (see video above). In this talk, Mr. Sinek references “the Golden Circle”: why, how, what.
The “why” is the purpose, cause, or belief that inspires you to do what you do. Mr. Sinek’s observation is that most businesses and individuals tend to focus on “what” (the actual product or service) rather than the “why” when it comes to communicating their message to potential consumers. The error in this pattern, Mr. Sinek suggests, is that thinking, acting, and communicating from the outside-in will not inspire others toconnect with you or take action. Rather, communicating from the inside-outwill attract and inspire audiences/consumers/followers who align with your beliefs. This idea can be applied to just about any pursuit in life, but in terms of camming, this is also relevant.
So why is “why” important?
“Why” will set you apart as a unique and individual performer. “Why” will allow you to connect with your audience, and inspire action. Consumers, according to Mr. Sinek, will not buy “what” you do, but “why” you do it. This concept can be applied to every aspect of your business, from your presence on social media, to your actual cam shows, and what you choose to write on your public model profile.
Let’s use a simple example: why members should take you Private.
Approach #1: What>How>Why
I do private shows.
I’m really great at fellatio.
Take me private.
Approach #2: Why>How>What
I’m sensual and very eager and willing to please.
I enjoy taking my time with you in order to fulfill your deepest desires. I am an expert at fellatio.
Let’s connect in a private session.
How does ‘Why’ apply to you as a cam model?
Think about ‘why’ you are doing your shows. Essentially, viewers can enter Private or tip whomever they’d like, so what is it about you that compels your viewers to spend their hard-earned dollars on you? It comes down to your message, and not solely the “what”- the service that you are offering. If you think about it, every other model that is online is also offering a service of some sort… that’s the premise behind the platform. Narrow down the “why” into a genuine message that will translate to your audience, whether verbally or how it is delivered through the text on your profile, or even through your interactions in both pre-show and during an actual show.
What sets you apart as an individual from the thousands of other performers on the internet is you. Let yourself be the driving force for inspiration from the way you conduct your shows, to how you communicate with your audience, and the type of content that you release.
The next time you go live, or send out a tweet, or decide on the theme of the day in your chat room, keep in perspective why you are doing what you do.

Ariadne made the leap into camming from her vanilla job in the customer service world just 8 months ago (as of this interview).
Ariadne doesn’t consider camming a novelty, but a foreseeable long-term career that she is devoted to. While some newcomers may view entering the competitive arena of live cams as ‘small fish in big pond,’ Ariadne believes that being her genuine self will allow her to stand apart from the crowd. She stands in her virtues of holding true to who she is and always trusting her gut: this has steered her into what she now considers her main “niches” – female domination and sensual domination. I was particularly keen on hearing her views about “whorearchy,” and her outlook as a sex worker in today’s society.
“It’s really important for us to see a little bit of ourselves in each other and lift each other up.”
Overall, Ariadne’s zeal and passion for camming has left a lasting impression- filling me with a sense of hopefulness and excitement for the next generation of new cammodels, and anxious to see how the development of technology coupled with creativity and innovation will drive the live cam shows in the near future.

If anything was made clear during this interview, it was this:
Submissive Lexi realllly loves what she does.
Not only that, but she’s really good at it.
Lexi entered the adult industry 2 years ago after being introduced to the concept of camming by her boyfriend. Prior to transitioning over to camming full-time, Lexi ran her own business as a certified clinical aesthetician. However, with her naturally high sex-drive, Lexi knew that porn was an avenue that she ultimately wanted to explore- she just wasn’t sure how to begin. With unwavering determination and the support of her small camily (cam family), Lexi has shattered all statistics of new cam model attrition, and has gone on to become one of the top models on the largest network of adult cam sites. A feat that would take near-decades for some, Lexi has managed to accomplish in a matter of 2 short years.
So what’s next for Submissive Lexi?
“I don’t ever want to stop. I love this. This job was made for me. I’m meant to be in this industry.

I met Sammy for the first time in 2013. I was in Vegas for Internext, the business-to-business portion of AVN week, to participate in a panel on ‘live cams’. That evening, I accompanied our Marketing Director (Liz) to a casual pre-funk get together that was being hosted by Streamate affiliate studio, KGB. It was in this penthouse gathering that I met Ms. Sammy: a bronzed, statuesque goddess donning a cowboy hat over her luscious long black hair. She asked me what I wanted to drink, then proceeded to pour me an excessively tall Solo cup of vodka, straight-up. Perhaps it was my haziness from the vodka, or perhaps it was Sammy’s natural sense of warmth and familiarity that made her feel as if she was a good friend that I had known for years.
Sammy entered the adult industry over 8 years ago in transition from owning a tanning salon business in Washington state. After trying her hand as an exotic dancer, Sammy realized that she would need to explore other avenues in order to earn a sustainable income that allowed her to support herself and her daughter (who had just left for college). After some online research, Sammy stumbled upon ‘live cams.’
Almost a decade later, Sammy has found her success as a webcam model through consistency and loyalty. When asked what advice she would give to new cam models:
“Don’t worry about what other cam models are doing. Worry about yourself- build your brand, build your business, be consistent. Just be you.“
